WE are very privileged to be the official photographers for the internationally renowned Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. This feats of music, song and dance takes place in Llangollen, North Wales and brings together younger and older people from literally all over the world to celebrate peace and understanding through the mediums of music, song and dance.
This week long festival combines serious competition with entertainment and each evening is topped off by a 'celebrity' concert with world class performers which this year included, Lesley Garrett CBE, Alfie Boe, Karl Jenkins, Alison Balsom, Nicola Benedetti, John Owen-Jones and Wynne Evans - he of "Go Compare" fame (what a lovely man and such a fantastic voice).
As I say, the event lasts a whole week but this year was extra special with a special event on the very first day that took place at Westminster Hall within the Houses of Parliament in London. Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod joined forces with the Commonwealth Carnival to put on a special concert with performers and choirs from all over the Commonwealth to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

BOND - Llangollen 2010
The first and in my opinion, by far the best, electric string quartet headlined the evening concert at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod on the 8th July 2010. It was great to be able to see, meet and photograph this very talented and photogenic quartet and even though we had been photographing a fantastic wedding earlier in the day (see Rachael and James at Peckforton Castle in the previous blog entry) we made haste to Llangollen to catch this performance.
There was to be no nodding off during this concert as the sound and lighting effects were simply outstanding. The energy these ladies put into their music is amazing and the audience made it perfectly clear they wanted more!

The Parade - Llangollen 2010
Although there is always an evening concert on the Monday evening of the week of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, the festival 'proper' doesn't officially start until the parade on the Tuesday.
This is an amazing event where hundreds of people taking part in the competitions during the week parade in costume through the centre of Llangollen flanked by cheering crowds of well wishers who often follow the paarde to the festival site on the edge of the town.
The parade is led by the Eisteddfod President who is currently (and has been for some years), Terry Waite CBE
I hope this selection of photographs gives you a flavour of the parade.

Katherine Jenkins at Llangollen 2010
The evening concert on the very first day of the 2010 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod needs little introduction.
This is the second time Katherine has headlined at the festival and we have photographed her many times both here in Llangollen and at other venues and she is always a delight meet and photograph. She is so beautiful and her singing voice is just incredible.
The concert was a sell out as you might expect and was a wonderful experience to both enjoy and to photograph

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod
We have been official photographers for the wonderful Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod for many years now and every year it is an assignment we are delighted to fulfil. This event is not to be confused with the National Eisteddfod which also takes place every year and is a celebration of all things Welsh.
The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is a seven-day festival of music, dance, and song that takes place every year in the small Welsh town of Llangollen. It has been running since 1947, and since 1987 the prestigious Choir of the World competition has determined the best overall choir of the event. In 2005 Luciano Pavarotti added his name to the competition in recognition of his appreciation of the festival and its influence on his career.
It brings together adults and children from all over the world to entertain us with song and dance and also to vie against each other in prestigious competitions.

Sports Relief
I mentioned a couple of days ago how nice the people at LSG were, well every year they allow their state of the art call centre in Crewe to be used for Sports Relief and Comic Relief (Red Nose Day). If that isn't enough, LSG staff from the most senior manager down volunteer to man the phones taking donations from the public.
Depending upon where you live, if you called in to donate the chances are your donation was taken here.
The atmosphere on the evening is fantastic and the guys here really do seem to get an enormous satisfaction in doing something really worth while. Here are a few photographs from the call centre during the 2010 Sports Relief event.

The party's over.....
September swept in on a tide of the heaviest rain I've seen for a very long time (it certainly did in our part of the world anyway!) and we have just discovered that our house isn't quite as waterproof as we had thought (and hoped).
On a positive note, as much as we love summer and the warm weather and blue skies (not that we saw much of it this year), we also love Autumn (or Fall as our North American readers would have it). There is nothing quite like romping through woodlands on a crisp and dry autumn day, kicking up leaves before coming home to a nice hot cup of coffee and wondering how it was you didn't see that pile of doggy poo under the leaves (yuk!).
Anyway, talking of smelly things.. autumn also means it is political conference season.
All of the main political party organisations in the UK will have their conferences in late September nicely scheduled so that they don't clash with each other. These wonderfully stage managed affairs are dreadfully popular with the party members as they can appear to be doing something worthy for their chosen party when in reality they are looking forward to a few days debauchery at the seaside (my opinion only of course - I'm probably wrong!).
With our press photographers hat on, we are likely to be covering the Conservative Party Conference this year as it is being held 'on our patch' as it were (Manchester).
Joking apart, the conferences are great for us as photographers as we get to meet all the big wigs that either run the country, would like to run the country or pretend they would like to run the country but know they don't have a chance of ever doing it.
Anyhow, to get a flavour, here are a few photographs from previous conferences and for complete political neutrality, I've selected a couple of photos from each of the three main UK partys and they are displayed in no particular order.

Andrea Bocelli
I mentioned yesterday that we had been commissioned to supply photographs for a forthcoming publication. The images we have been asked to supply are of 3 wonderful operatic performers we have had the pleasure of photographing over the last few years.
We cannot show the exact photographs being utilised as these are now subject to licensing arrangements with the publishers but on this and the next couple of blog entries, we'll show photos from the same sets as those being used.
Last in the series but by no means least, is that wonderful tenor, Andrea Bocelli.
I cannot imagine anyone who is not mesmerised by this charismatic Italian's voice and you should not miss the opportunity to see and hear him perform live if you ever get the chance. When you realise he lost his sight whilst playing football as a youngster makes you realise even more what a wonderful achievement it has been for him to have become one of the foremost tenors of our time.
